Fees and Contact Information
Law firms separate their charges into two areas: fees and costs. Fees are the rates that the professional staff (attorneys and paralegals) charge per hour to work on your case. At present, Mr. Ikei charges $300 per hour out of court and $350 per hour in court. Costs are out-of-pocket expenses which the firm may incur on your behalf. Although this is not an exhaustive list, costs can include such items as fees paid to the court to file a complaint, postage, charges for photocopies, fees paid to court reporters who transcribe depositions in your case or fees paid to expert witnesses who may testify for you.
Our normal policy is to request a retainer of $5,000 when we agree to take a case. There is no charge for this screening process which is for the purpose of allowing our office determine if we can take your case.
The firm also accepts cases on a modified contingency basis depending on the specifics of the case. In that case, we would still ask that a client pay fees (as defined above); however, the firm sets a combination of hourly charges which are capped at an agreed-upon figure plus a percentage of the recover obtained for a client.
This is only a general discussion of the fee structure of our office. Your case may vary from the norm for a number of reasons. If our firm does accept your case, we will develop a written fee agreement which will spell out the amount you will pay and the means by which payment will be made.
